Supporting Independent Retail

National Timber & Hardware Association (NTHA) newsletter recently highlighted what the association described as "A Real Win for Independent Retail."

Having worked alongside independent timber, hardware and building supply merchants for more than 35 years, we understand the challenges facing our industry. Rising costs, workforce pressures, compliance requirements and changing customer expectations continue to reshape the retail landscape.

Industry outcomes that strengthen the position of independent retailers help create opportunities for local businesses to invest, grow and compete effectively. We congratulate the NTHA on its continued advocacy and commitment to supporting independent retail.

Industry Insight: 35 Years in Independent Retail

Written by Sympac Chief Customer Officer, David Gibson, one of our most popular recent LinkedIn articles reflected on how independent retail has evolved over the 35 years Sympac has served the industry.

While technology, buying groups and customer expectations have transformed significantly, some things remain unchanged:

  • Reliability still matters.
  • Local expertise remains a competitive advantage.
  • Strong supplier relationships drive long-term success.
  • Businesses that embrace technology while maintaining personal service continue to outperform.

Looking ahead, AI, automation and enhanced business intelligence tools will help remove administration and improve decision-making, allowing independent retailers to focus on what matters most—serving their customers.

Sympac Version 9.1 Rollout Underway!

One of the biggest initiatives of 2026 has been the rollout of Sympac Version 9.1.

This major upgrade delivers more than 40 new and enhanced features designed to improve efficiency, reduce manual processes and provide smoother day-to-day workflows across the business.

To support the rollout, we've also released a dedicated Sympac v9.1 Upgrade Course on symlearning, allowing users to familiarise themselves with new functionality before deployment.

Our Client Services team continues to work closely with customers to ensure a smooth and successful transition.

New Features, Functions & Future Highlights

The first half of 2026 has delivered a range of new features and enhancements focused on improving visibility, efficiency, automation and customer service across the Sympac platform.

New Sympac Dashboards

Our new Customer and Product Dashboards bring key business information together into consolidated, easy-to-use workspaces.

With instant access to debtor balances, collections, statements, quotes, orders, releases, department maintenance and product management, the dashboards help reduce manual effort and support faster decision-making.

Smarter Payments & Faster Cash Flow

Integrated payment solutions including Pay By Link and Registered Card Payments are helping customers reduce administration, improve payment security and get paid faster. These tools provide a modern alternative to traditional phone payments while simplifying debtor management and reconciliation.

Peppol eInvoicing integration

Send invoices directly from your system to your customer's system.

Imagine sending an invoice and having it arrive directly in your customer's accounting software, without emails, PDFs or manual data entry. That's exactly what Peppol eInvoicing does.

Through our partnership with OZEDI, Sympac now provides fully integrated Peppol eInvoicing, allowing businesses to exchange invoice data securely with MYOB, Xero and other Peppol-enabled accounting platforms. By removing manual handling and reducing errors, Peppol helps accelerate approvals, improve cash flow and streamline your invoicing process.

Delivery Management System

Take control of your deliveries with real-time visibility, smarter route planning and digital proof of delivery.

Through our integration with Detrack, Sympac now extends beyond order management to help you manage the entire delivery process. Track drivers in real time, capture signatures, photos and GPS timestamps, automate customer notifications, and give your team complete visibility from dispatch through to delivery.
