Bendigo 1996

The 1996 season will be thought of by some as the return of the Latrobe Valley to a power position in the State Country Championship.

Accumulated from the best of the Latrobe Valley, the LV Men teams went on the road in 1996 to Bendigo for the annual Victorian Country Championships. Here the best country teams in the state gather to complete for the coveted crown of Country Champions. The team this year left with high expectations. Led by experienced coach "Scotty", the team headed for the competition after a number of weeks of hard training.

The Womens LV Team also competed at the Country Championships. With coach Stephen from the Division 1 Warriors team, the women team were expecting to do well.

Both of the Latrobe Valley teams played exceptional volleyball. Meeting and besting teams from around the state, both teams showed skill and determination and both reached the grand final held on the Monday of the long weekend.

The LV Mens team, accumulated from players from various teams in the Morwell competition, proved too much for Ballarat in the final. Winning in straight sets to claim the victory and the title Victorian Country Champions of 1996.

The LV womens side played well but had to settle for second in the grand final match. They left determined to be back in 97.
